After five days of cold weather cycling I was able to bring my time down by 3 minutes, which really isn’t a lot according to the guys at my new job! I needed to work on my pacing and gears apparently, but I was happy just to be cycling. Heading to week 2 seemed a lot less daunting since I had already managed to survive the cold weather and general suspected misery I had assumed was about to take place before I started week one.
I learnt a lot on week one, such as reducing weight by being smarter with where I leave coats and towels for changing at work. I learnt I needed a lot more food for the journey home than anticipated. Point in question, on Wednesday night I got home so hungry I started eating the kids cold leftovers lying on the dinner table…had to be done. I realized my body required an extra boost of energy or I would be shaking as I walked through the door.
Things to look forward to on week two:
Getting quicker so I’m not in the cold for 40 minutes.
Enjoying the ride rather than worrying about how many stops I’ll need to eat or rest!
Sunrise and sunset riding on the same day.
Not shaking like a shitting dog when arriving home.
Things to worry about:
Ice
Wind
Rain
Cars killing me
Trucks killing me
Sore legs
Sore face
BMW drivers
